Are there any book publishing companies in Devon?

I've written a book and i'm living in Devon...i'm trying to find a publishing companie to publish my book. Any suggestions? Are there any book publishing companies in Devon?
I don't know of any, but you shouldn't restrict yourself to local companies. Getting published is hard enough as it is, without imposing any further constraints on the process. Most if not all of the business between author and publisher can be done by some combination of post, telephone and email.

  • What are some self publishing companies who help market your book?

if you are a published author who self published what company did you use and how was your experience? What are some self publishing companies who help market your book?
If you are self-publishing, you are the publisher and responsible for your own marketing. Even if you are traditionally published you would still be responsible for your own marketing.

To find the right company to self-publish with, you need to look at several factors.

    1. What type of book are you publishing? (i.e. novel, children's book, etc.) There are some companies that are better than others. If your book is one that needs to be printed in color, you'll want a POD company that can provide a better price and a book size that qualifies for distribution. For example, it is less expensive to print in color via Createspace vs. Lulu. If you're printing on black and white, most PODs are competitive.

    2. Distribution. This is a key factor in the publishing process, making sure that you have options for distribution to Amazon, Barnes %26amp; Noble, as well as eBook channels such as Kindle, Nook, Mobi, etc. When you go print-on-demand, by having an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) for your book (the little bar code on the back of the book) that will get you into virtually all bookstore databases and your book will be carried in online stores. It will also be available if you walk into a Barnes %26amp; Noble or Indie bookstore, if you give them your ISBN, they will be able to order the book.

    3. Does the self-publishing outlet provide a book return policy? This is an extremely important question to ask. If you are going to try to get your book placed in the bookstores, you will need to be able to offer a return policy, as bookstores require that. If the books are not purchased, they will return them at the end of the year. This is an industry standard and brick and mortar stores will not buy without this option. Lulu and Createspace do not offer this option. Infinity Publishing does offer this option for authors, at no additional charge. There are other POD companies that offer it, but you have to pay $1K and up for this service.

    4. How much help are you looking for throughout the publishing process? There is a lot that goes into publishing a book, editing, formatting, cover design, distribution, ePub conversion, bookstore pitching, marketing plan, and more. I do recommend that you use a publishing consultant to help you find the right publishing option and resources for you.

Do your research and find the right fit for your title. Infinity Publishing and Xlibris, both offer free consultations so you may want to give them a call. They will ultimately have someone assigned to work along with you throughout the process.

Outskirtspress is a self-publishing company I reccomend. You get help marketing, 100% publishing rights and 100% profit, and more benefits, too! It's a great, helpful manner of self-publishing that many successful authors have used and I am preparing to publish my book with soon. What are some self publishing companies who help market your book?
From what I remember it's pretty much up to you. But with the internet now it probably changed. Published writing is a buisiness.

Go here and ask the same question. www.writersdigest.com There are people who know what they're talking about.

What are some common publishing companies? + BQ?

I don't have a book to publish (yet ;D ) but, for future references I was wondering if anyone could make a list of some common and well-known publishing companies w/ links to their websites, puhleese! :D

BQ: how long does it usually take for a book to get published? (provided the company accepts it)

Thank you! What are some common publishing companies? + BQ?
Pick up any book in the library (any book you read at all) and jot down the publisher from the copyright page and begin building your list. Using books you read will also help if you are writing in the same genre. I write romance so publishers like Brava; Pocketbooks Romance; Avon Historical Romance; are publishers I would submit to first and foremost. Each of the websites for the publisher will have a submission tab. Check the guidelines for the process.

Know that a large publisher like Simon Schuster has several imprints: one for romance, another for fantasy; a third for science fiction; a horror imprint and political drama and so on.

Do publishing companies still accept manuscripts written in pencil?

I mean, what if you don't have a computer? I don't like typing mine up. I prefer writing them, the way authors did way back then, you know?Do publishing companies still accept manuscripts written in pencil?
Sorry, but they won't accept hand written manuscripts. You need to get it typed up onto a computer, not a typewriter as a lot of the editing stages are done by emailing copies back and forth between editor and author, with corrections and suggestions marked on. They usually ask for an electronic copy if they contract the book.

If you don't have a computer, then local libraries have them that can be used by the public, or a friend might be able to let you use theirs.Do publishing companies still accept manuscripts written in pencil?
    Unfortunately, it's all computer now.

I like writing them out first too. But I also go back and type them, which is why I bothered to learn to type. My grandpa only handwrites things and so hires me to type out the completed manuscripts. But I don't work cheep even for relatives. It's best just to learn to type.

I had a teacher who taught me to touch type in the most cruelest way possible, but highly effective. She built this cardboard stand which she put over the keyboard so you couldn't see your hands. And then you'd just type. Do this for 30 minutes a day for less than 6 weeks and you'll be an incredably fast touch typist. This also helped me get my job.

If you don't have a computer, you can use internet cafe's but be warned that a lot of those have viruses, and you might want to be careful. Best just to save your pennies and buy your own.Do publishing companies still accept manuscripts written in pencil?
If you don't have a computer (which clearly you do or you have access to one) then you hire someone to type it for you. And trust me, a publisher and/or agent will not care if you don't like typing it in Word. If you lack the professionalism and seriousness to submit your manuscript the way it's expected then don't count on getting published any time soon.
You need it typed up. What if they can't read your handwriting?

Does anyone know any publishing companies that are quick and accept unsolicited manuscripts?

I already know about arctic wolf, Arthur A. Levine books, Clayborn press, and Aspen Mountain Press. I don't want to have to wait a long time either to get a response time from publishers either. I don't mean to be picky, but I don't want to wait 3 months and find out they aren't interested.Does anyone know any publishing companies that are quick and accept unsolicited manuscripts?
Publishers are bothered with hundreds of manuscripts a day. They will all take time. Unless you have an agent then it will probably take even longer because they get to the ones with agents first. So just query agents and if the book is good enough it will get published(with patience).Does anyone know any publishing companies that are quick and accept unsolicited manuscripts?
    Not any legitimate ones.

Being impatient is a great way to get scammed.Does anyone know any publishing companies that are quick and accept unsolicited manuscripts?
Learn patience. You will need it if you want to become a published author and it helps in just about all walks of life.

    What do publishing companies do?

If you have a book that has been professionally edited, graphic designed etc.. do you need to go through a publishing company to be able to sell the book or can you just start selling it on your own? What do publishing companies do?
you can try but would find it difficult to place it in shops - publishing companies have contracts with them making it much easier to place and they also promote the book

this article tells you much more about the process than I could fit into an answer here
