so i really like to read and i am super good at english and math as well. I would love to be an english major and work in a publishing company but i don't know the different types of jobs they have and i tried looking in google but couldn't find an answer. so if you know the different types of positions and the work they require that would be great. What different positions do they have at publishing companies?
A fully fledged publishing company will have a wide range of staff, not all related to the actual content.
Finance, IT, management etc...
But if you want to actually write, then I guess youd start as a Journalist, or Columnist.
Also most companies (even if they arent publishing companies), require some sort of media person to prepare press releases, sometimes a dedicated Press Officer to deal with regular contact with the media.
After working as these you might then try to get a job as an Editor, which has more responsibility.
Be careful not to just apply to any old publishing company though. Some publishing companies dont produce the content, and are simply responsible for printing content provided by other companies (ie, a printing company)
