But finding a Canadian publishing company is not really your first step. Depending on what type of book you are planning to write (fiction/non-fiction) you will either need to create a proposal (non-fiction) or a completed manuscript (fiction). Then you will need to query either an agent or publisher to see if they are interested in looking at your book. Some agents do not take unsolicited manuscripts (which is what yours will be), and most publishers do not take unsolicited manuscripts. I would recommend trying to find an agent, but if it is for fiction, then you must have a complete manuscript before going down this path. Make sure you do your research on the agent you are querying once you have your book ready, because you will get more interest if you send to the agents that are looking for a book like yours. If you send a non-romantic sci-fi story to an agent that only represents romance novels, then you will be wasting your time and theirs.
