How Can I research Publishing companies???

Is there a database that has details of publishing companies and the subject area that they specialise in???

I am searching for publishing companies that will be interested in publishing my dissertation, so I will need those that specialise in academic topics. How Can I research Publishing companies???
Try the ' Writers Year Book 2007' It has every UK publisher with their specialities / generalities. It's invaluable and easier to sort through than on-line.
You already know the answer to this, you are just showing off that's all.

I just did a google search on academic publishers and thousands of web sites are listed.

You know how to do this, after all you must have done research for your dissertation in the first place and I bet you did it by internet searches. So do it again for publishersHow Can I research Publishing companies???
There are a lot of publishing companies out there. Just go onto the search engine and put in publishing companies and this will take sometime, but what you are looking for is something you will have to just read each one and also just write to a few of them and tell them what you are needing and looking for. Some require you to write a query on your manuscript.
I just did this a few months ago.

Buy the latest version of 'Writer's Market' and go to the index in the back that lists publishers by genre.

Find the genre you are interested in and check each of the publishers in that catagory. It will list the page number where you can get more details. But don't stop there.

After you weed out the ones that don't apply to you needs, go to the websites of each publisher and get more complete information. Sometimes the book doesn't tell everything you need to know, such as restrictions on book length, etc.

If you're planning to submit a manuscript, carefully read the guidlines and don't hope that you will be the exception that can do it some other way.

Each publisher has their own requirements. One that I researched prefers electronic submissions, another will only accept printed submissions. Some require a query letter with the first three chapters. Others say you should send a synopsis.

You need to know what these things mean and only submit the way they ask for it. If you give them any excuse to reject you, they will.

You might think "they're going to miss out on a lot of great manuscripts with that kind of attitude" but it doesn't matter.

That's how it works.

I hope this helps. By the way, while you're browsing through Writer's Market, you might want to read about agents, too.

In fact, there's a lot of good information there on all sorts of writing issues.

Good LuckHow Can I research Publishing companies???
Whatever your field of expertise, there are professional publications aimed at it. Check the department library and the bookshelves of your dissertation committee wherever you're getting your degree to see what those publications are, if you don't know.

You will not find academic publishers included in books like Writer's Market. Be aware that many academic publishers of high repute are located outside the US, since their field is studied worldwide.
There are several. At each you need to find the potential publisher than go to their website to see what their looking at, and how they want it formatted.

one of my favorites is http://www.duotrope.com/ they're free and seem to be fairly complete.
Go to your university library and look at such books / published dissertations. Find one that would fit with your topic and submit. In all likelihood there will be submission guidelines in the front of the issue (if it's a journal), or on the journal / press' website.

Research (hands-on especially by reading the published writing in your area) is the best advice I think.

Good Luck!
