What publishing companies should I go for?

I'm writing a novel. Do you know where I can go to get it published? What publishing companies should I go for?
What genre is the novel? It can make a difference in who you choose.

What is it's word count? You won't know that until it's finished and edited. It can also make a difference.

Do you want the books on shelves at stores nationwide where most people still buy their books (traditional publishing), or just available to buy online somewhere (self publishing)?

Do you want the publisher to pay you (traditional publishing) or you pay them (self publishing)?

No one can just throw a name out there like a magic answer to your dream. You have to do your research to know something about publishing in order to choose the appropriate publisher for they type of work you have written.

Get a copy of the Writer's Market. Most of what you need to know is in there. What publishing companies should I go for?
Finish writing your manuscript first and then ask about publishing. You're thinking too far ahead of yourself if you're not even completed, edited, and polished.

In the meantime, go buy or borrow "The Writer's Market" so you can at least get some ideas.
