How much do publishing companies give you to publish your average book?

Author being an unknown expert in the field. I know it's some money upfront. Do they give a percentage as well? How much do publishing companies give you to publish your average book?
If a publisher picks up your book, you will receive two kinds of payments: an advance and royalties.

An advance is paid before the book is published. A non-celebrity first-time author can expect to receive a few hundred to a few thousands dollars as an advance.

Royalties are paid based on the number of copies sold, and are usually broken into tiers. A non-celebrity first-time author might receive 4% of the profits on the first 5000 copies sold, 7% on copies 5,000-10,000, and 10% on anything above 10,000.
It depends on your agent and publishing house. It is usually a percentage. I know a first time author who received a $7000 advance on her book. It was mainstream chick lit. I'm not sure if this is average or not. Anyways, I think it's more about your publishing house. Your agent gets a percentage (6 or 10 percent usually). Then you don't get royalties on your book until it has sold a specific number of copies. I think this is the norm. How much do publishing companies give you to publish your average book?
I think I read somewhere that the average for a first time author is 6%, and they are usually paid that (the estimate) a year beforehand.

This is on top of money already given.

Sorry if this is too vague, but I think I've remembered correctly, I'm usually better with figures than words...
I can't give you a number but you will get a percentage. Authors usually do not make much unless their book sells a lot of copies. How much do publishing companies give you to publish your average book?
It all depends on how well they think the book will sell. A do-it-yourself-book isn't going to make as much as a juicy, well-written novel.
