Publishing companies?

I have 3 years of experience of working as an editor at a publishing company.

My Japanese is... upper-intermediate, I suppose.

Would it be possible to get a job at a manga-publishing company (be it magazines or volumes) in Japan for me? I'm just curious. I'm talking about the editor-in-chief position or anything mighty like that. I could start from the assistant.Publishing companies?
Jess - Good luck to you.

Anything is possible, I agree, but it is unlikely.

You could certainly get a job if you are already living here with your own visa (like permanent residence or spousal) but it is highly unlikely you will get a visa sponsored by a Japanese manga publishing house to come and live and work here.

Basically if a J-company wants to hire a foreigner and support their visa, they have to prove that no one else in Japan can do the job. Like a native english teacher. As there are thousands of people in Japan waiting for this kind of job, i think it would be probably quite unlikely.

BUT give it a shot! You never know eh! :DPublishing companies?
Anything is possible, but it is not very likely. Japanese manga companies have no reason to hire a foreigner who they will have to sponsor with a visa and who does not speak the language fluently over a Japanese applicant, especially for a "mighty" position. There is no advantage for them, only a bit of a headache and the ability to claim they have a foreigner working for them (but Japan doesn't care about affirmative action so that's not a plus either).Publishing companies?
- Your "3 years of experience of working as an editor at a publishing company" was all in Japan?

- And was the company you had worked a Japanese one?

- Have you ever worked with Japanese co-workers? (where only Japanese spoken)

If your answers to the above are all YES, then you might have a chance.

Just one more thing to be noted is, as you might know, the language used in manga is very particular one with full of slang.
There is no reason to have a foreigner as "editor-in-chief".

Maybe, you can have a part-time position in a publisher.
