I have a parody book I want to publish but I'm unsure as to which company would be best. I am looking for a publishing company (not a self-publishing company) that publishes parodies. Please give me a link to their website and also please give me the manuscript submission guidelines that they have. Thank you. What are some publishing companies that publish spoofs?
Well, there are numerous, but your best bet is to self-publish. In any case, if you are unwilling to do that work yourself, but are willing to pay, you can use any of the following more popular for-pay publishers:
1. www.authorhouse.com
2. www.lulu.com
3. www.titleverso.com (somewhat less expensive)
4. www.dorrance.com
Hope this helps! What are some publishing companies that publish spoofs?
Be careful who you get involved with. Even a few of the biggest and popular publishers are out for the money they can make for themselves. The moolah they can collect can be from your pocket long before they even consider your work. In this day and age books are becoming digital, expensive to press and can be found on the internet and you do not have to buy them in hard cover. Some will charge you for pre-reading, proof reading, editing, test editions, etc., and other sneaky fees and then tell you their time is worth money then turn around and tell your work did not comply to their standards or will not sell enough to make it worth their effort. Then you are unfortunately out a lot of money for nothing in return. Avoid those places if you can! NOTE: Not all publishers do this, the majority would not stay in business if they were that cold and shady. There are many top notch agencies at your choice! But, there are a few not so well as known publishers and editors that can even steal your jokes and quotes, reword them and use them for themselves or share with other writers they find more usable. (A few sneaky comics seem to do this to other comics. Stealing jokes is as common as the rain). Such is the media/entertainment world. Your best bet is to look at similar books you can find in top bookseller's shops and find the info of these publishers in the back of the covers. Always do some deep fact finding. Protect your works by copyrights first and above all! It may not be cheap, but it will secure your works. You can also mail yourself a rough draft and this will show a true mailing and insurance date of your work and efforts being sent. You can also send a few rough drafts to trusted friends and others who can read it first, date and notarize their seeing and reading the content then, verify your work. You need to always be the owner of content and not allow unsavory publisher's rights to take over, change/edit (too much), or steal your work. There is never a guarantee your works will be published on a grand scale. Demand then supply can sometimes be the standard for upstart writers. I wanted to try and see if I could publish a kid's craft book ("Crafty crafts for crafty kids"), of strange and unusual crafts to do at home, yet I was dismayed at all the costs it took to just have someone read it, mail it, so on and so on. I said screw it and ended up making my own, (definitely not so perfect) homemade books. (I am a crafter after all). I taught myself how to create cloth covers, bindings too, and sold them at our local craft market as the crafty books they were. I, myself, did not become a famous writer/crafter, did not want to be, just wanted to share my craft with people who liked doing fun things with their children. I actually made about a thousand dollars over the course of a year, not much to impress the pocket book, but was quite pleased with the fact that some children had some fun things to create at home! The experience was a happy one. That was many, many, many moons ago!!!! Now I am done!!!!!!! I am certainly NOT suggesting you go this route as your work is much more intricate and special! I cannot endorse anyone for you as it can be a fickle business even with the best of publishers. I would not feel good about recommending you to someplace that can take you for a long ride. Your best bet is to wait for some answers and see what pops up. Google up "book publishers/satire/parody" and go by that. Most of the answers you get here may be based on what others find there. Some, by the lucky few who actually made it. You can do this yourself. Sorry I did not give you what you were seeking, but wanted to share the foibles of the business as it can be shady, a real pain in the wazoo and pocketbook. I wish you a lot of luck and hope you succeed in grand style!
