I'm 14 and have recently written two books. The first one i had self published but the second i really want to try and get published by an actual company. My dream is to become an author but i'm not sure how to start off with my writings. I really want to find a place that will accept my pieces and maybe even get them into a few stores. Are there any publishing companies that can publish a novel written by a 14 year old??
Well, first of all: you are an author! Because you have authored 2 books.
All publishing companies consider all manuscripts without regard for author's age - but I would recommend you do what most adult writers do: find an agent!
Don't worry about it - you're on the right track - and congratulations on finishing not one but 2 books!!!Are there any publishing companies that can publish a novel written by a 14 year old??
Amelia Atwater-Rhodes published her first book when she was fifteen. If you're interested in her "story," go to http://www.randomhouse.com/features/atwa鈥?/a>
You'll definitely want to find a literary agent, and yes, you're already an author. If you write something, you're an author.
Check out writersmarket.com. I'm sure they have books in your local library on publishing, too.Are there any publishing companies that can publish a novel written by a 14 year old??
If you already have a book published, you are an author!
The first thing you have to do is to is find an agent that is willing to represent a story the same genre as yours. Next, if you find one you should send a query letter so if they are interested they will help you get a book published.
The agent will represent your work to professional publishers and soon you will get a publisher that likes your work.(This can take years to happen)
Soon if you are patient your work will be in stores. Good luck in getting your story published!
Publishers don't care how old the author is, unless they can use it as a marketing gimmick--except when it comes to contracts. At 14, you cannot legally sign a publishing contract with a "real" publisher and will need a parental signature.
But that's down the road a ways. First, you need to identify likely publishers for your second book. Visit a big bookstore. Who's publishing books in the same genre? Jot down company names.
Now go to the writing a reference section and get out the most recent edition of Writer's Market. Check out those companies and find out if they accept agented submissions only or if they're open to contact directly from the writer. Jot down websites of the ones you can contact, because back home, that's where you'll find their writers' guidelines.
If all the publishers only accept submissions from literary agents, then you need to find one with recent book sales in your genre. Places to find agents, or learn more about them, include querytracker.com, GLA (GuidetoLiteraryAgents.com), and AQ (AgentQuery)
