I've finished writing a good story but now I need help to publish it NOT SELF PUBLISH can anyone help? I want a good puublishing company. This is my first book.Do you know any good publishing companies?
Although first time authors often have more difficulty getting published than previously published authors, it's still quite possible (speaking from experience). If you want to get a really good company, I highly recommend finding an agent to represent you first because most traditional publishing companies do not accept unsolicited manuscripts directly from authors. They seek quality in a work and feel more comfortable working through an agent who can guarantee a certain novel's quality and public appeal. Having an agent also makes the author appear to be better qualified in the eyes of the publishing company, therefore giving you a better chance to get published! Agents also help you negotiate a better deal with the publishers!
If you seek an agent, here are some good sites that I personally recommend. This is where I search when I was looking for someone to publish my novel, Dream Saver.

There are several publishing companies that accept query letters directly from authors. Although these are few in number, below are several sites that list those companies. However, be warned: These companies will often offer you low royalties and print few copies of your novel. Personally, I recommend working through an agent.

Another company that you can try is the company that published me, Mercury Publishing Inc.They're currently looking for fantasy and science fiction novels and are willing to accept first time authors.

Good luck getting published!Do you know any good publishing companies?
Writers travel down a lonely road paved with rejection letters, but don't allow that to stop you from pursuing your dream. Consider the following choices:
1) You can seek an agent to represent you. Agents are difficult to obtain, but are necessary if publication from large publishing companies is what you're seeking.
2) You can submit your manuscript directly to small, independent publishers who accept submissions from unagented writers.
3) You can self-publish it. This is the shortest avenue. It offers instant satisfaction if all you want is for your work to be available to friends and family. Lulu.com is a free service and is easy to use. This is strictly an FYI type of thing as I know you said you were not interested in self-publishing.
To obtain either an agent or a publisher, use books like the Literary Marketplace or the Writers Market or web sites like Preditors%26amp;Editors and writerswall.com. I strongly urge you to use these books at the library as opposed to buying them. They are both updated annually, quickly making your store-bought copy outdated.
Search for agents or publishers that represent or publish books in the genre you've written. Follow their submission guidelines to the letter, that's why they supply them. Use only the format they ask for. Make certain your work is perfect--free from errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Learn how to write a sensational synopsis and a query letter. Each agent or publisher will ask for a query letter and/or a synopsis. Very few will want the entire work in the initial package.
Be patient with the submission process. Expect some rejections, but make sure you don't allow them to discourage you. Instead, learn something from those letters that can make the next contact even better.
Never, ever pay an agent to represent you. That's not how it works. Agents get paid when they sell your work!
Good luck to you! :o)Do you know any good publishing companies?
Every year there is a reference book called "The Writer's Market" that comes out. Most local book stores should have it, and while it's an investment (usually about 50-60$) If you are serious about your writing it is a VERY worthwile investment. It has the list of hundreds of publishing companies organized by what genres and types of stories they accept. Simply the most helpful tool a writer could own.
Can you be more specific? Like what genre?
the writer's market is a good idea. Also, go to preditors and editors. That's a great place to find good publishing houses.
