How can i publish a book when companies dont want first timers and self publishing will ruin me?

how did other authors get their start?

how can anybody?

everyone has to begin somewhere. i have heard if i self publish, a future book agent will reject me because its a sign of no talent.

but other pub houses want someone with experience.

how can anybody write these days then? it seems between a rock and a hard place.

i write childrens books and although i make them myself, and i read them to kids, the kids (ages3-8) laugh hysterically and ask to read it again and again. I really think i could market these books. How can i publish a book when companies dont want first timers and self publishing will ruin me?
Publishing companies now have all the resources to publish children鈥檚 books with the same productivity and efficacy as that of regular black and white books. Considering the fact that most children鈥檚 book are in full color, you should choose a publishing company whose book鈥檚 are of the highest quality, bar none.

Primarily, after finishing the text part of your children鈥檚 book, illustration then will follow. Publishers have layout artists who will cover the part of your book鈥檚 design and format. You might a certain concept of how your characters will look like on paper so if you want to do the illustrations yourself, that might get you to save time more.

Self-publishing is one venue for authors who wanted to test how their book will fare in the market.

First is that you have to customize a plan that will work best with your book. List all the things your book needs such as book cover customization, editing, marketing, etc.

Second, find a publishing company that has everything your book requires. I know XLIBRIS has programs that are quite affordable and fits just what your book requires.

Third, go through production process and then see if the book meets your standards.

I hope this helps.

You really need to do more research on the world of publishing, because your statements reflect a lack of knowledge.

1. There ARE publishers who are open to first-time authors. Likewise, there ARE agents interested in handling first time authors. Consult Writer's Market, among other resources. Descriptions there specify preferences, including receptivity to new authors.

2. Self-publishing has changed radically. It is no longer assumed that you are a "no talent" if you self-publish. Some writers who have self-published go on to get book deals from mainstream publishers. But you really need to study the self-publishing market -- there are good companies and rip-off companies and you need to know the difference. How can i publish a book when companies dont want first timers and self publishing will ruin me?
Basically you either keep submitting your work to agents and publishers who accept nonsolicited work (manuscripts not sent by an agent). Or you share your stories with as many people as you can (and you may want to copyright them before you do) and if they like them let them tell their friends who tell their friends. Word of mouth can go a long way. Or for now, skip the manuscripts and just become a storyteller, telling your stories far and near, to anyone who will listen and enjoy. Eventually you'll hear "You should put these in a book" and maybe even "If you ever write these down, I know a guy at SoAndSo Publishers" who would love something like your stories.

Just don't give up!
I recommend checking out the classified section of Poets and Writers Magazine at www.pw.org. You can read the magazine for free on the website and there are frequently editors looking for new voices in the classifieds. The magazine is also an excellent source of information for both new and established writers. How can i publish a book when companies dont want first timers and self publishing will ruin me?

That's not true about self publishing. With technology the way it is today, you should have no problem with publishing anything.
Self-publishing won't ruin you. It's up to you if you want the satisfaction of seeing your name on a book or making a million dollars. Tough choice for some, but not for me. If my family and friends enjoy my books and want to buy them, great! If strangers want them, that's an added bonus. I don't want to be a millionaire or have fame and fortune. If I stumble into it, cool...but that is not what my writing it all about. Just think of those children, ages 3-8 who may never see one of your books at all because you are waiting on some high falutin' publisher that MIGHT say no. The way I see it, if you self-publish, someone may see your book that you aren't expecting to and will contact you. Don't listen to what everyone else says, go with your heart. Either way, good luck to you!
