What is that book with the names of publishing companies and how to contact them?

As an experienced writer and published fantasy author, I would suggest you save your money on books that list publishers. For the most part, those listings are either out of date, vague, or totally useless because most major publishers these days won't even READ unsolicited manuscripts unless you have previously published something OR you have a reputable agent. The slush piles are in the thousands, so don't waste your time, postage or printing costs.

What you need, once you have a finished manuscript, is an agent. Pure and simple, no buts about it--get an agent. Otherwise you are paddling upstream against a current that will eventually dishearten or break you. Agents know the game and they know what the publishing houses are looking for.

That's my advice. Good luck with your book.

See Dustbooks--http://www.dustbooks.com--for some good resources.
The book is called the Literary Market Place, known in the biz as the LMP, which you can get at any library. You can also subscribe to it on line. It's updated annually.

The five-star author above my answer is probably right. Nobody bothers to read unsolicited book proposals. If you do try to get an agent, be very careful and get good references for them. Also, get one who knows how to listen to you and not just a greedy creep out to cash in on YOUR talent! What is that book with the names of publishing companies and how to contact them?
Writer's Market.

It's called the Writers Digest, and it's worth its weight in gold.
Could be 'The Writers and Artists Yearbook'. Don't know if it's still in publication though.
There are different ones depending on the genre you're interested in.
