I've wanted to be an editor for a publishing company for as long as I can remember, but recently whenever I try to find a company I would want to work for the company is based in New York City, New York. Usually I would have no problem with moving to a job's location, but due to some personal and family issues I have a strong aversion to New York both the state and the city. Does anyone know where some other publishing companies are located? It's fine even if they are outside the United States. Can anyone tell me where I can find fiction publishing companies?
I definitely agree with Roadwalker-you might not want to go there, but eventually in life you are going to have to do something you don't want to. That's kind of beside the point anyway, but still...
The major publishers exist on the East and West Coast, London, Toronto, and occasionally Chicago, Sydney and Tokyo. These are just the major publishers. There are many small branches and other such publishing cutoffs that extend to other cities around the U.S. Again, just repeating what Roadwalker said, Writer's Market lists the big publishers. Also, you might refer to literary agencies, who are typically the ones responsible for selling an author's work to the big companies. Can anyone tell me where I can find fiction publishing companies?
Look at the Writer's Market. That lists all publisher.
But sooner or later you will have to grow up and travel to places you might not care for. And you need to decide if you really want to be an editor you may need to move to The Town so nice They named it Twice.
