i ask this because i'm a very keen writer and have written a 'teen romantic comedy' novel, and a lot of my friends say i'm extremely good. i was just wondering if any publishers would actually publish my novel, and what processes would i have to go through to get there?

The short answer is, any of them will publish a book they love, no matter who wrote it. But that's easier said than done. If I were you I'd start by looking for an agent. I've had two and no longer have any, but at the beginning they can be invaluable. Get yourself a 'Writer's Market' or similar book that lists UK agents and tells you how to contact them. Then make lots of copies of your cover letter and chapters - you'll need them. No matter how good your book, there will be rejections! Don't deal with any agents who ask you to pay them upfront - their only payment should be royalties when they've sold your book. And if you get a good one, you won't have to worry about the rest.



Meanwhile, it's possible to get a publisher without an agent and also to self-publish, but both can be a very hard slog, fraught with pitfalls. If you decide to go the first route, you're probably best soliciting small publishers. If you decide to self-publish, make sure you get your work edited properly first! My take on the answer is that if your book is as good as you think and your friends have said, then any publisher would be prepared to publish, no matter your age. however, in reality certain publishers specialise and as you say you have written a teen romantic novel then you need to channel your enquiries to companies specialising in publishing this type of literature. start by writing to firms that have published your favourites and the ones who publish writers who have interested and inspired you to write.
