Publishing Companies in Chicago?

I was wondering about the publishing industry in Chicago, and what companies are based there. Also, if any of these companies offer internships, that would be great to know.Publishing Companies in Chicago?
Aside from university presses, small boutique presses, and academic companies (LN, Thomson etc), there aren't a whole bunch of publishers in Chicago. The heart of trade book publishing has always been in NYC but it sounds like you have reasons for looking in Chi-town.

The best thing you can do is get yourself to the library to look at the most recent edition of Literary Marketplace. The online version is best because you can sort by city. Here you will find out who's who in and what the specialties are of various houses etc. This includes distributors, agents, PR firms, and publishing houses.

You might find some literary agents and freelance publicity firms in Chicago which is always a good place to get a foot in the door. Working in a publishing house is completely different than working at an agent or PR firm at least you could find out if you like working with authors and publishers and publishing people in general. You would be in contact with them a lot at either one of these places.

I know a few people who moved from being booksellers into jobs in publishing so if you like books you might want to look into that.

Good luck!
